The Cast Metals Federation, CMF is delighted that what is believed to be 'the world's oldest aluminium casting in existence' will be on display during CASTcon 2025.

Produced by investment casting (aka the lost wax process), the casting is a half-sized replica of a marble sculpture entitled Diane de Gabies, exhibited in The Louvre.  It was cast in 1859 by French founder and metalworker, Paul Morin, and then collected by Jean Plateau as part of his extensive collection of objets d'aluminium.

CASTcon25 is taking place on the 15th and 16th of April 2025 at Cranfield University and will be the UK castings’ industry premier technical conference featuring a line-up of inspiring speakers,  engaging workshops, and unparalleled networking opportunities alongide a table-top exhibitions with some of the industry’s leading suppliers.

Pam Murrell, Event Convenor & former CEO of the CMF, and Chair of The Founders’ Industry Committee says, “It’s a great that we are able to have this stunning casting on display – it beautifully showcases the quality and intricate details that are possible through the casting process.

“We are grateful to Nadine Bloxsome, Emily Foster and the team at the Aluminium Federation (ALFED), the owners of the sculpture, for enabling the CMF to display this stunning casting during our event.”
